Abstract

Microfiction is one of the most significant and popular narrative genres of the contemporary age. Through brevity, semantic density, symbolism, and evocative expression, it presents human experiences and emotions in a highly effective manner. In the modern era, characterized by a fast-paced lifestyle, digital media, and changing social and psychological attitudes, this genre has acquired renewed importance. This paper offers a critical study of the intellectual, artistic, and aesthetic dimensions of Khalid Suhail Malik’s microfiction collection Doosray Janam Ka Canvas. The purpose of this study is to examine the extent to which the author employs the defining characteristics of microfiction and how skillfully he portrays contemporary human concerns, existential questions, social contradictions, loneliness, the disintegration of relationships, and inner anguish. The study reveals that Khalid Suhail Malik’s style is marked by brevity, symbolism, suggestiveness, and semantic depth. His microfictions are not merely short narratives; rather, they are creative texts of profound intellectual and aesthetic significance that actively engage readers in both interpretation and meaning-making. Doosray Janam Ka Canvas represents an important contribution to the tradition of Urdu microfiction, highlighting the genre’s artistic possibilities, aesthetic richness, and intellectual depth. The collection not only reflects the realities of contemporary human existence but also offers new perspectives on the poetics of Urdu microfiction.
