Ghalib's modernity and English colonialism

In Urdu poetry, Ghalib is considered the starting point of modernity. Almost all the critics of Urdu language have supported this opinion. There is no doubt that Ghalib praised British colonialism in his writings but it is also true that it never tried to adopt British modernity. Ghalib's writings, however, show a British-friendly attitude towards the War of Independence but this attitude has a purely political, social and economic reasons. In fact, Ghalib's entire creative formation took place in the context of Mughal aesthetic and Ghalib's poetry is the greatest proof of this. In this article, Dr. Nasir Abbas Nayyar tries to present in detail the relationship between Ghalib and English colonialism. This research paper will give rise to new discussion in the context of Ghalib and British colonialism.
