Abstract

It has been a common debate in Urdu fiction that social realism depicted in fiction, seems to be imaginary. Although the scope of the story is limited, but it is related to the mythology based on the dreams and vision of human beings, supernatural wonders, superstitions and religion. In this regard, magical realism has a specific style and technique. In the last few years, the story has also been seen to be related to the facts. In this context, the terms biographical novel and faction were used. It refers to the facts, real political and social events which have been fictionalized specifically in novel and generally in short stories. It has enhanced the worth and scope of the Urdu novel. It connects the novel with history and contemporary era while narrating it parallel with the prevailing history. This paper will present a study of the novels of Asghar Nadeem Syed, structured on such events which influenced the history, politics and society of Pakistan. It is also important to overview the history of Urdu novel to search for those novels which fictionalized the reality based on contemporary important political and social events. In literary criticism, it has been described as closer to faction than to fiction. Most of the events in Asghar Nadeem Syed's novels are not related to personal but to collective life. These events are also related to Pakistan's national life and historical roots, so this paper will also provide an overview of Pakistani history and its different times.
