Abstract

In this essay the first book written on Allama Iqbal ‘‘Iqbal by Ahmed Din’’ has been analysed. Allama Iqbal’s first poetic collection was still in process when one of his close friends Ahmad Din published a book ‘Iqbal’ on the thought and art of Iqbal by collecting Iqbal’s poetry from different newspapers, magazines and from the proceedings of Anjaman Himayat Islam. He did not seek Iqbal’s permission in doing so. He thought Iqbal would appreciate the publication, but Iqbal strongly disliked it. The reasons of Iqbal’s dislike for that book have been analysed in this essay for which Ahmad Din has to burn its all copies and how Iqbal permitted its publications again. The importance of this book in the study of Iqbaliat has also been discussed.
