Abstract
This study examines the satirical and humorous elements in the column writing of Bushra Rehman. Bushra Rehman holds a distinctive position in Urdu journalism and literature due to her lively, engaging, and thought-provoking style of column writing. Her columns reflect social realities, cultural norms, and political conditions of Pakistani society, often presented through subtle satire and refined humor. The research highlights how Bushra Rehman employs satire as a literary technique to criticize social contradictions, moral decline, and political inconsistencies, while humor softens the tone and makes the critique more accessible and appealing to readers. Through irony, exaggeration, witty remarks, and anecdotal narration, she exposes societal flaws without adopting an overtly harsh or confrontational approach. Furthermore, the study analyses the linguistic and stylistic features of her columns, including conversational language, cultural references, and narrative humor, which contribute to their popularity among readers. Her satirical voice not only entertains but also stimulates intellectual reflection and social awareness. The findings suggest that the fusion of satire and humor in Bushra Rehman’s column writing serves as an effective medium for social commentary, allowing her to address sensitive issues with creativity and balance. Thus, her columns represent an important contribution to modern Urdu prose and journalistic literature, where literary aesthetics and social criticism coexist harmoniously.
