Abstract

This research study presents a comprehensive and analytical study of the personality and literary contributions of Karamat Bukhari, a distinguished contemporary figure in Urdu literature. The study explores the multifaceted aspects of his creative journey, establishing him as a significant poet and critic of his era. The primary objective of this research is to analyze the thematic and stylistic dimensions of his work, tracing the influence of his personal experiences and intellectual disposition on his literary output. The study is divided into three main parts: an examination of his art as a ghazal poet, a poet of 'nazm' (poem), and a critic. As a ghazal writer, his poetry is deeply rooted in classical tradition yet reflects modern sensibilities, characterized by simplicity, eloquence, and the masterful use of Sahl-e-Mumtana. His thematic canvas covers love, human relationships, and socio-political consciousness, often employing the metaphor of Karbala. As a poet of 'nazm', he demonstrates remarkable versatility in both subject matter and form. His critiques, primarily impressionistic, reflect a constructive and encouraging approach toward contemporary writers. This study concludes that Karamat Bukhari's sincere and profound artistic expression has secured him a unique and respectable position in modern Urdu literature, making his work a valuable asset for readers and future researchers.
