Abstract

Ecocriticism is modern perspective of literary criticism which analyzes the relationship between living things with its environment. Man can be defined as a living thing that can modify its environment for his comfort. In the course of modification of environment, man has posed serious threat to its natural environment and consequently to living things. Ecocriticism object this anthropocentric interference with ecosphere. Man is destroying his environment with his own hands, making the planet incapable of supporting life. One of the objectives of literature is to provide awareness about potential dangers to society and suggest means to avoid from any kinds of unpleasant situation. In recent years, world of literature focuses on creating awareness about environmental hazards faced all the time. Urdu Literature is also very well aware about this burning issue. Fiction, nonfiction writers and poets of Urdu are giving pivotal importance to environment in their creations. One of such poets of Urdu is Anwar Masood. He created lots of awareness about the environment. pollution in his book, “Maili Maili Dhoop”. Here is a critical analysis of this book from Ecological and eco-critical point view is given.
