Abstract
The tradition of poetic tales in Urdu has existed for centuries and continues to be an important part of literature. Dr. Farman Fatehpuri, a renowned figure in Urdu literature, has critically evaluated the Urdu poetic tales up until 1870 in his PhD thesis, "Urdu ki Manzoom Daastanein" Masnavi, a type of poetic tale, is a significant part of world literature and reflects the grandeur of this genre. The book "Urdu ki Behtreen Masnaviyan" by Dr. Farman Fatehpuri evaluates three significant masnavis, including "Sehrul Bayan," "Gulzar Naseem," and "Zehr-e-Ishq." Dr. Fatehpuri analyses their characters, plot, dialogue, and sequence of events. "Sehrul Bayan" by Meer Hassan portrays the characteristics of the characters, social values, and events of the time, while "Gulzar Naseem" by Diya Shankar skilfully combines poetry, emotional expression, and elaborate language to reflect the essence of the Lucknow society. "Zehr-e-Ishq" by Nawab Mirza Shaooq is known for its emotional intensity and impactful use of language. Dr. Farman Fatehpuri's evaluation of these works provides insight into their literary and artistic value and contribution to Urdu literature.
