Abstract

Muhammad Hassan Askari's views about Islamic/Pakistani Literature and Culture: A Critical Review. Hassan Askari holds a key position in Urdu literature. He cannot be ignored in criticism as well. His scope of criticism is noteworthy. He wrote intensively and extensively about Islamic and Pakistani literature before and after the creation of Pakistan. He believed that Pakistan would be the first republic and socialist state in subcontinent. That's why he considered Pakistan beneficial not only for the Pakistanis but also for the Hindus. He gave no place to hypocrisy in Islamic literature. He is the first scholar who originated debate to determine the pros and cons of Pakistani literature and Pakistani culture. Many great scholars of Urdu like Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi and Intizar Hussain along with other progressive critics played their roles in the projection and propagation of these debates. In this article, review of Askari's such views have been presented.
